Fruequently asked questions
What should I do if my condense pipe freezes?
During prolonged spells of extremely cold weather this significantly increases the possiblility that the
condensate drainage pipe from condensing (high efficiency) boilers will freeze - usually
when the pipe has been installed externally for some of its length. Blockage due to freezing
stops the condensate flowing to waste and causes the boiler to shut down.
This can usually be done easily by locating the blockage and thawing accordingly, applying a hotwater bottle or cloths soaked in warm water to the exterior of the
pipe, close to the point of blockage. Warm water can also be poured onto the pipe from a
watering can or similar container. Do not use boiling water.
Always call an engineer for advice or if you are in any doubt.
